Your Kit, On the Map

BLE Asset Tracking Is Now Live in the Fleet Focus App

Every Fleet Focus customer can now tag and track the tools, trailers and plant that travel with their fleet, straight from the app, with no install and no engineer.

For years we’ve made the same argument: the real gap in most fleet operations isn’t the vehicles. It’s everything that travels with them. The tools, the trailers, the plant, the kit that quietly walks off a site and never comes back. As of this week, that gap is closed. BLE asset tracking is live in the Fleet Focus app, and every customer can start using it today.

Why asset tracking matters right now

Theft of trade equipment has become an epidemic, and the numbers make sober reading. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles puts the value of equipment stolen from UK vans at a staggering £3.5 billion in 2024 alone. Reported tool theft jumped 16% in a single year, climbing to almost 31,000 recorded incidents, and that’s only the cases that reach the police. Across the wider picture, a tool theft is reported in the UK roughly every twelve minutes, and around half of all tool theft happens from vehicles.

The kit that goes missing rarely comes home. Once an asset leaves a site or a van, the trail goes cold fast, and the overwhelming majority is never recovered. That’s seldom for want of police effort. It’s a lack of information. Nobody can return what nobody can find.

That’s exactly the gap BLE tracking fills.

How does BLE asset tracking work?

If you’ve ever used an AirTag to find your keys, you already understand the principle. Our BLE tags broadcast a low-energy Bluetooth signal that nearby devices pick up and report straight back to your Fleet Focus dashboard. A tagged asset gives you a last-known location, a trail to follow and something concrete to act on.

The difference is what we’ve built around that signal. Consumer tags are made for a coat pocket. Ours are made for a flatbed in February: ruggedised, sealed and built to shrug off the vibration, weather and general battering that commercial kit takes every day.

What can you track?

Anything that doesn’t move under its own power and has no wiring loom to plug a tracker into:

  • Hand tools and power tools
  • Generators and compressors
  • Site equipment and plant
  • Trailers, demountable bodies and cages

If it’s worth stealing, it’s worth tagging. And because the tags need no power feed, they reach the assets hard-wired trackers never could justify: the low-value-each, high-volume kit that was simply never economic to protect before. Now it is.

Setup measured in seconds

No install. No engineer. No appointment.

Peel and stick the adhesive pad, or clamp the tag on with its integrated high-strength magnet, and it appears in your app. Name it, attach it to an asset, and you’re tracking. Need to move a tag from a trailer to a generator next week? Lift it off and reassign it in seconds. The hardware doesn’t care what it’s stuck to; that’s rather the point.

How cost-effective is BLE tracking?

For most operators the maths is almost too easy. A tag works out at around 14p a day, barely £4 a month, to protect a single asset. That’s a fraction of the kit it sits on, and a single recovered trailer or generator pays for a whole fleet of tags several times over.

It works on two fronts at once. First, recovery: a tagged asset that goes missing leaves a trail instead of vanishing without a trace. Second, deterrence: visible tracking puts thieves off in the first place, because they prefer assets that can’t talk back. Either way, the tag has already earned its keep long before you ever need it. Set against an average theft that costs thousands to replace and days of lost work to recover from, protecting the whole depot for the price of a single power tool isn’t really a decision at all.

It’s in your app, so go and look

BLE tracking is switched on for all customers as part of the platform. Open the app, head to the asset-tracking section, and you’ll find everything you need to add your first tags. If you’d like a hand setting up at scale, say tagging a whole depot’s worth of equipment in one go, our team will happily walk you through it.

Already a Fleet Focus customer? BLE tracking is live in your app now. Open it, tag your first asset, and put your kit on the map.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is BLE asset tracking?

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) asset tracking uses small, battery-powered tags that broadcast a low-energy Bluetooth signal. Nearby devices pick up the signal and report each tag’s last-known location back to a central dashboard, in this case the Fleet Focus app.

  • What can I track with a BLE tag?

Any asset that has no power source of its own to wire a tracker into: hand tools, power tools, generators, compressors, site equipment, trailers, demountable bodies and cages.

  • Do I need an engineer to fit the tags?

No. There’s no install and no appointment. You peel and stick the adhesive pad, or clamp the tag on with its built-in magnet, and it appears in the app ready to name and assign.

  • How much does BLE tracking cost?

Around 14p a day per tag, roughly £4 a month, to protect a single asset. That’s a fraction of the value of the kit it sits on, and because one recovered trailer or generator covers the cost of an entire fleet of tags many times over, the return is almost immediate.

  • Can I move a tag between assets?

Yes. Lift the tag off one asset and reassign it to another in the app in seconds, for example moving a tag from a trailer to a generator.

  • Is BLE tracking available to all Fleet Focus customers?

Yes. It’s switched on for every customer as part of the platform. Open the app, go to the asset-tracking section, and add your first tags.
