Five questions to ask any fleet camera supplier… Including us.
Fleet safety technology should do more than record what happened. It should help you understand why it happened and prevent it happening again.
Fleet Focus is an AI-powered Driver Intelligence platform built for commercial fleets. We bring together AI cameras, driver behaviour analysis, telematics, CANbus data, vehicle health, tachograph information and asset tracking to give operators a clearer picture of what is happening across their fleet.
As an RHA member, you may be considering cameras or a wider fleet safety system. Before you choose a supplier, there are five questions worth asking. Including us.
1. How good is the software, really?
Not the demo. The thing your transport office logs into on a wet Monday. Ask to see risk scores, driver trends, event footage and vehicle health on one screen, because if it takes three logins and a spreadsheet to build a picture of a driver, nobody in your business will do it after week three.
2. How fast can you get footage out?
Insurers work to short windows and the other side’s solicitor does not wait. Ask how long it takes to pull a specific clip from a specific vehicle at a specific time. If the honest answer involves sending someone to the yard with a laptop, or waiting for the vehicle to come back, that is your claims process now. Fleet Focus retrieves footage over the air in minutes.
3. Is the image quality good enough to win the argument?
Resolution is not a vanity feature. Claims turn on registration numbers, on which vehicle crossed a give-way line, and on whether a pedestrian stepped out. Ask to see genuine night footage, not a showreel shot in daylight. Ask what the system stores footage on, too. A corrupted memory card at the wrong moment can lose you a claim you should have won.
4. Who answers the phone at three in the morning?
A camera fault on a night trunk is not a next-working-day problem. Ask where support sits, what hours it covers, and whether you are speaking to the people who fitted the system or a call centre working from a script. Fleet Focus support is UK-based and available 24/7/365.
5. Was this specification built for my operation, or pulled off a shelf?
A tipper fleet working in quarry and construction carries different exposure to a chilled distribution operation trunking overnight. DVS obligations, insurance pressure, claims history and driver retention all change what you should be fitting. If a supplier quotes you before understanding what you run and where, they are selling a box rather than solving a problem.
What those five questions were worth to Bretts
Bretts Transport completed a four-way retrofit across 24 vehicles, with a further 18 due this year, having originally started with Fleet Focus in 2023 for DVS compliance.
They did not extend simply out of loyalty. They tested the market. They compared suppliers and came back because, on software, retrieval speed and image quality, the alternatives were some way behind.
And what is the technology finding?
50 microsleeps. 116 near misses. 76 averted breakdowns.
That is one operator, over one month, and almost none of it was visible to them beforehand.
It is not about catching drivers out. It is about seeing the events that never reached an incident report because, that time, nothing actually happened.
Our clients have saved up to 46% on insurance. Behind that sits the claim you defend rather than settle, the breakdown caught before it becomes a recovery, and the driver still with you next year.
Your RHA member next step, and it costs you nothing
We will come to your depot and carry out a Fleet Review covering what you run, your DVS position, your claims and insurance exposure, and what a phased rollout could realistically look like around your renewal cycle.
You keep the review whether you buy from us or not.
Bring the five questions with you.
