Why Bretts Transport Chose Fleet Focus for Its Four-Way Camera Rollout

Investing in vehicle cameras has become a straightforward decision for many fleet operators. Less obvious is what happens after they’re installed. Cameras must remain operational, meet compliance requirements, provide reliable evidence following an incident and, above all, give operators confidence that their drivers are protected. Installing them is only the beginning. The greater challenge is knowing those cameras are working every day, capturing the right footage and delivering intelligence that improves fleet safety and performance.

That is why storage and distribution specialist Bretts Transport looked beyond the hardware when selecting a partner for its latest fleet safety investment.

Working with fleet safety technology provider Fleet Focus, Bretts has equipped 24 vehicles with cloud-connected four-way camera systems. A further 18 vehicles, due to join the fleet later this year as part of the company’s fleet replacement programme, will also be fitted with the technology, alongside AI-powered driver-facing cameras that provide an additional layer of risk mitigation and support safer driving practices.

The investment builds on a relationship that began in 2023, when Fleet Focus helped Bretts meet the latest Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Progressive Safe System requirements. Today, that partnership has evolved beyond compliance, giving the business access to a connected platform designed to improve safety, protect drivers and provide complete visibility across its fleet.

Each vehicle is equipped with a forward-facing road camera, near-side and off-side blind-spot cameras, and a cab-facing camera, creating a comprehensive view both around the vehicle and inside the cab. Yet cameras alone only record events. They cannot alert operators if a lens becomes obscured, if a device stops recording or whether crucial footage will still be available when it is needed most.

This is where Fleet Focus sets itself apart.

More than simply storing video, the platform continuously monitors the health of every connected camera. Using artificial intelligence, it verifies not only that each camera is operational, but that it is capturing the correct view. If something changes, operators are alerted immediately, allowing issues to be resolved before they become costly problems.

The platform also provides secure cloud-based access to footage from any location via a tablet, laptop or mobile device. Video evidence can be retrieved within minutes, helping operators establish the facts quickly, support insurers, defend drivers against false allegations and resolve incidents far more efficiently.

“For us, this isn’t simply about fitting cameras to our vehicles to tick a box. It’s about investing in reliable technology that’s backed by a trustworthy and experienced partner, ensuring our drivers have the best level of protection available so they can carry out their jobs with total confidence, knowing they’re supported should an incident occur.

“The industry has seen an explosion in fleet technology over recent years and it’s easy to be drawn in by a good sales pitch. However, the technology itself is only one part of the equation. If a camera isn’t recording properly when a vehicle is involved in an incident, you’re potentially left without the evidence you need. That creates delays, increases costs and ultimately leaves both operators and drivers exposed.

"Having confidence that the system is working as it should gives us complete peace of mind. Equally important is having immediate access to accurate footage so we can establish exactly what happened, support insurers and resolve incidents much more quickly if an incident does occur." — Bretts Transport

Graham Plummer, Commercial Director at Fleet Focus, added:

“We’ve worked closely with Bretts for a number of years now, and throughout that time it’s been clear that both companies share the same customer-first approach.

"We don't believe in simply supplying hardware and walking away. Operators need a partner that's responsive, provides ongoing support and helps them get the most out of their technology. By working closely with Bretts on this project, we've been able to successfully deliver a phased rollout that gives the business confidence its drivers and vehicles are protected both now and in the future." — Bretts Transport

As fleets increasingly embrace AI and connected vehicle technology, the industry’s focus is shifting from simply collecting data to turning it into actionable intelligence. Fleet Focus combines connected video, artificial intelligence and continuous system monitoring to give operators greater visibility, faster access to evidence and the confidence that the technology protecting their drivers is performing exactly as intended.

For Bretts Transport, the four-way camera rollout marks more than the completion of a technology upgrade. It represents an investment in a long-term safety partnership—one that gives the business greater operational confidence today while providing a platform to support the increasingly connected fleets of tomorrow.
