HOW TOUGH ARE FLEET FOCUS CAMERAS?

As the most vulnerable part of any vehicle camera system the quality and reliability of external cameras is essential for keeping your drivers safe, your vehicles protected and your fleet compliant.

We know our external cameras get bumped, scraped and subjected to high pressure water spray and corrosive substances all the time.

Fleet Focus cameras are built for the job and proven in the field, in this article we put them to the test to show they can withstand even the toughest environments.

Test 1: Crush Test

The casing of a vehicle camera protects the sensitive lens and image capture technology inside and its strength is essential to maintaining its waterproof seal. To test the strength of our camera casing we used the heaviest weight we could find, a 7.5 ton truck.

During the test we ran our camera repeatedly, the camera was completely unscathed and in perfect working order.

Test 2: Jet Washing

Having been ran over repeatedly by the truck we subjected our camera to a sustained 20 minute jet wash with over 12o Bar of  water pressure. The camera suffered no ingress of water whatsoever.

Water ingress is the number one cause of failure for external cameras. Fleet Focus cameras have been awarded the highest level of waterproof (IP) protection and are able to withstand high-pressure water jets and even steam cleaning.

Test 3: Drag Test

To test the cameras ability to withstand shocks and impacts we came up with the drag test. Using only the cameras cable to tether it to the truck we dragged the camera along a private road for one mile.

Despite bouncing off of the road surface behind the truck the glass remained unbroken and the camera continued to operate perfectly. The only damage to the camera were scuffs on the casing.

Test 4: Image Quality

Having been crushed, jet washed and dragged behind a truck we wanted to see how the cameras performance had been affected.

Despite the extreme pressure and impacts the camera had been subjected to the video and audio performance were perfect and the damage to the camera was only aesthetic.

The Conclusion

Whilst we cannot claim our cameras are bullet proof (we couldn’t test that) they are certainly more than a match for the tough environments commercial vehicles face.

After all that we had put it through, the camera in this test continued to function perfectly with nothing but scuffed paintwork to show for its ordeal.

Their build quality, wide angle lenses and night vision technology make Fleet Focus cameras the perfect choice for commercial trucks, vans and plant.

Glass still in tact and camera still
in perfect working order.
