Hamblion Transport a company based in Colchester with over 30 years experience in the haulage sector chose Fleet Focus to supply and install multi-camera observation and CCTV systems.

The brief

Our brief was to supply a solution that would provide their drivers with full visibility night and day in all vehicle blind spots, provide video evidence in the event of an incident and to help achieve FORS compliance.

Hamblion wanted the system to automatically show the relevant camera depending on the maneuver being undertaken. Fleet Focus PRO700 systems offer up to eight configurable input triggers for automated camera switching.

Having had previous experience of equipment not tough enough for a hard working truck they were keen to ensure the equipment they selected was up to the job. Following an initial consultation Hamblion selected the Fleet Focus PRO700 DVR solution with 1TB of storage and  our rugged IP69 waterproof camera pack.

Specification

  • PRO 700 DVR (GPS + GFORCE)
  • 1TB SATA main storage drive
  • 32GB SDXC backup storage
  • FF PRO Rugged Side Cams
  • FF PRO Rugged Rear Cam + Audio
  • FF PRO Super Wide Front Cam
  • 7″ Low glare driver display
  • IP69 cable extension pack

Installation project

The fitting quality was of paramount importance to Hamblion who opted to use our experienced engineers to complete the work, we attended site on a Saturday to ensure no downtime to the fleet. DVSA (VOSA) compliance was vital and Hamblion expect the system to last the lifetime of the truck.

Front Camera

Maximum visibility with front cameras is key not only to capture pillar to pillar footage but also to ensure the system can see as close to the front bumper as possible. To achieve this we fitted our 170 degree high resolution bullet camera which provides excellent image quality even in low light conditions.

Side Cameras

Hamblion opted to mount side cameras in a low positioning to both protect the equipment and to provide good visibility of the video recording system even with the doors open. This position offers excellent visibility in the blind spot to show any obstacles, vehicles or vulnerable road users that the driver would otherwise have difficulty seeing.

Rear Camera

The rear camera of any multi-camera solution is more about giving the driver the visibility needed when reversing than providing evidence in the event of a collision. We recommended our ultra-tough cast aluminium reversing cam with 120 degree viewing angles, integrated night vision and microphone.

Sound from the rear of the vehicle is played through the display screen helping the driver to hear a banks-man or calls to stop.

Driver Display

The display screen is a key part for the driver and Hamblion opted to mount the screen to the roof lining. This positioning offers excellent visibility with very low glare and ensures DVSA (VOSA) rules are not infringed.

Digital Video Recorder (DVR)

The PRO700 DVR unit is a very tough piece of kit incorporating the latest sensor technology and video storage media. Because the storage media needs to be accessible it was mounted beneath the passenger seat providing easy access for the fleet manager whilst keeping it out of the way of the driver.

Cabling and connectors

Water is the enemy of all electrical systems and as with all installations we use our IP69 compliant 4-pin screw seal cable extensions. This means that in theory the entire system up to the DVR unit could be fully submerged in up to 5 feet of water. Each connector uses silicon seals and stainless steel couplers with an additional rubber sheath for added high pressure protection.
